Project SCENe

Project SCENe (Sustainable Community Energy Networks) aims to stimulate the adoption of "off grid" energy by home buyers. With a pilot customer community in Nottingham's new Trent Basin waterside housing development, we are working with our partners to enhance understanding of this new idea, and to support customer engagement, energy choice and buy-in.

Our collaborative team:

Online tools for customer education, engagement and choice.

In June 2016 our R and D team started a new Innovate UK funded research project called Project SCENe (Sustainable Community Energy Networks). The aim of the project is to accelerate the adoption of "off grid" energy (i.e. minimal or no use of the national grid) in the UK.

One of the current barriers to large scale buy-in of Community Energy Systems is a lack of understanding of customer needs and viable business models. Stickyworld's communications platform will be used during the project as an innovative means of customer education, engagement and participation about new sustainable energy choices. It will enable new insights and data to be gathered, analysed and widely shared.

Working with our industry partners, including A.T. Kearney, Siemens, Blueprint, Smartklub, Urbed, Solar Ready, Slam Jam, Loughborough University and University of Nottingham, we will provide the capabilities to engage with and learn from a new community of home owners signing up to particapte in Project SCENe in Nottingham's new Trent Basin waterside site.

This project will complete in July 2018.

What are the main project goals?

The goals are to set up a Project SCENe Community Energy System, which new home owners in Nottingham's Trent Basin waterside site can sign up to, and to explore customer needs, energy choices and new models of customer behaviour. The project aims to test, inform and deliver a viable business model/s for Community Energy Systems which housing developers can replicate.

Who is on the project team?

We are are delighted to be working with high profile organisations such as A.T. Kearney (project lead), Siemens, Blueprint and University of Nottingham. We are also grateful to collaborate with innovators including Smartklub, Urbed, Solar Ready, and Slam Jam.

What are we testing?

We are looking at Stickyworld's existing toolset, then specifying, testing and developing new community management and social research tools.

We will also be developing our capabilities for enabling improved customer education and engagement throughout the marketing and sales process, a selection tool to support energy choice, and a user guide for onboarding and continuing customer engagement.

How will this project extend and improve Stickyworld for everyone?

The social research tools we are developing will be relevant and useful for all researchers wanting to extend their stakeholder engagement online, and to evidence and measure impact.

Also, there is much in common with our Digitising Custom Build project and its focus on enabling a new way for property marketing and sales professionals to present and engage with customers. In Project SCENe we will be continuing to develop our tools for customer education and engagement throughout the marketing, sales and post sales process. These capabilities have massive scope and use throughout the construction and housing sector.
